6 Shows You’ll Be Demanding This Summer (VOD Hidden Gem)
By T. Tara Turk
Summer is here and below are a few shows that I’m anxious to catch on those moments when there’s no sunshine:
Rocco’s Dinner Party (Bravo)
I’ve been intrigued with Rocco Dispirito since he had one of the first food based reality shows, “The Restaurant,” where he attempted to open Rocco’s with Jeffrey Chodorow, a successful restaurant entrepreneur. Dispirito and Chodorow fought like the culinary odd couple (feel free to hum the Oscar and Felix theme song here). Dispirito accused Chodorow of cooking the books and Chodorow bashed Dispirito for never actually being in the restaurant to run it.
Though Rocco’s Dinner Party is based on a cooking competition, it’s obvious that he has built-in drama.
Expedition Impossible (ABC)
Anytime you have a promo where one of the contestants is amazed at how much sand is in a desert, I’m there. I get my family friendly adventure jollies from "The Amazing Race" (since they add a bit of human in their expeditions) but I’m open to seeing some cutthroat action that will make Pirates of the Caribbean look like a ride at a country fair.
I like law stories like “LA Law” (I know some of you youngsters just scratched your head) or “Ally McBeal,” but times have changed and there’s a fine line between humor and drama now called dramedy that not many shows can get. This one, about a guy with a photographic memory who passes the bar without ever attending law school, just might hit. Not to mention I love Gina Torres and I hear Tracie Thoms (Cold Case, you can come back anytime) is doing a guest appearance.
