Dr. Portnoy: ProvocateurMarch 10, 2010
See John Cooper (Director of the Sundance Film Festival) like you’ve never seen him before:
On the Dr.’s couch.
In the nest of trust.
On stage.
On Hulu?
Simultaneously a talk show and a work of performance art, “Dr. Portnoy” represents an alternative to the tired TV platform where guests come to promote whatever they have to sell. Instead, the program emulates the psychotherapeutic model--the so-called “talking cure,” arguably one of the last redoubts of authentic discourse in our society--in order to encourage an unusual degree of intimacy and spontaneity between its participants.
Provocative and innovative, challenging and hip, “Dr. Portnoy” is a contemporary “happening” designed to revive the art of sparkling conversation while encouraging its guests to open up open to a degree unusual for television.

Guests: Alan Cumming, Melissa Auf der Maur, Edward Hogg, John Cooper, Stella Schnabel, The Yes Men
Produced by friend and Irish visionary Elma Cremin. I’ve been waiting to coin this exclamation publicly for years. It’s simply ELMA-TIC!
