MTV VMA Recap:
So I think we can all agree that Chelsea Handler may not have been the best choice to host the VMAs this year. Her jokes fell flat and her usually acerbic, dirty tongue seemed mellowed out by the writers’ forced punchlines. When it came to the performances, however, this year’s VMAs definitely kicked some ass.
Florence and the Machine (PictureGroup/MTV)
Florence + The Machine wins my vote for best overall with a smashing performance of “Dog Days” (available this week on Music Choice on demand) and Eminem kicked it off with a great dual performance of “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way you Lie” with Rihanna (who is currently being styled by the House of Ronald McDonald).

If you didn’t get enough Em at the VMAs check out Music Choice On Demand’s playlist Jay & Em Meet NYC for coverage of their most recent (and altogether epic) concert in New York on the 13th. Eminem may have been quiet for awhile but he is definitely back with a musical vengeance.
My other favorite performance of the evening was Drake featuring Mary J. and Swizz Beatz with “Fancy.” Drake’s soaring popularity gave him enough edge to knock out Eminem’s #1 video from last week and he certainly proved his chops during the show. This artist has come a long way from his post-Degrassi days of pedaling records.
Rediscovering Some Great Latino Artists during Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 – 10/15)!
For now, let’s put MTV aside and focus on something a little spicier for fall! Did you know that September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month? To celebrate, Music Choice has put together some of the hottest video playlists from well known Latino artists including Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and Marc Anthony.
While these artists already have a pretty big following from the general population, MC has also arranged a few distinct videos from amazing artists like Juanes, Aventura and Espinoza Paz. These artists have certainly earned their chops abroad and will now receive greater exposure through on demand viewings.
For a fun feminine throwback, checkout some of the best videos from Shakira and the original Latina popstar, Selena. “Dreaming of You” and “I Could Fall In Love” are two of my all time favorite songs so it will be great to check them out this week on Music Choice. Shakira’s hips never lie and this summer her superstar status was even further boosted by the popularity of her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka.”

To really get into the spirit check out the playlists Viva Mexico! (airing now until 9/26) and Latin & Proud! (9/27-10/15) for a new music flavor, sure to get your hips shaking. This September marks the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence so celebrate with Mexican artists Los Titanes De Durango and their video for “El Enamorado” or El Trono De Mexico with “Te Recordare.”
At the end of the month, bring back the more pop infused sounds of Enrique Iglesias and Prince Royce. So get some margaritas going and keep your music hot while the weather gets colder!
