Golden Globes Watch (Premium Picks)

GOLDEN GLOBE(S)®, HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION®

Jean Tait takes a look at what Premium TV Series are nominated for this Sunday's Golden Globes.

We are off and running for the Award’s Season! Yeah, yeah, it’s going to be a tough year for female actors going for Academy Awards, but the real excitement for me is watching the Golden Globes for TV! You can catch just about all of the nominated shows/performances On Demand.

I have three words to say: “Homeland” “Homeland” “Homeland.” Astonishingly shut out of the SAG Award nominations, “Homeland” was properly recognized by the Golden Globes with noms for Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama (Damian Lewis) and Best Actress in a Drama (Claire Danes). All much deserved. I am appalled that “Homeland” wasn’t nominated as Best Ensemble by the SAG Awards. The Cast are all brilliant individually, but the way they work together is breathtaking.

It was a great year for Showtime Networks which also scored nominations for Laura Linney in the Best Actress in a Comedy for “The Big C” and David Duchovny and Matt LeBlanc both nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for (respectively) Californication and Episodes. Go Matt LeBlanc! His sly portrayal of Matt LeBlanc the actor was full of surprising cheek and depth.

Even STARZ scored with a nomination for Kelsey Grammer in “Boss,” which will hopefully encourage audiences to give this show a chance. Kelsey Grammer is magnificent, and the show deserves to be seen.

HBO didn’t do too badly, either, although that’s par for the course, with noms for “Mildred Pierce” (which swept at the Emmys), “Boardwalk Empire,” “Cinema Verite,” (Diane Lane should be a shoo-in, but guess who-Kate Winslet as Mildred Pierce-will win), “Too Big to Fail,” “Enlightened” (surprise!), “Game of Thrones” (let’s hope Peter Dinklage repeats his Emmy win), and “Hung.”

The Golden Globes will take place January 15th, so that gives you a full month to park yourself on the couch and hit that On Demand button on your remote control to check out some of the best television EVER (“Homeland” “Homeland” “Homeland”).
