- I AM NUMBER FOUR
GNOMEO & JULIET (Disney)
As “Clueless” is to “Emma,” so “Gnomeo & Juliet” is to Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” However, this cute family film might have been even better if Amy Heckerling was involved.
Gnomeo (voiced by James MacAvoy) is a blue garden gnome whose family feuds with their next door neighbors, the Redbricks. Gnomeo gets down and dirty with lawnmower races and garden sabotage until he meets Juliet, the daughter of Lord Redbrick. The film comes with an Elton John soundtrack and plenty of talking lawn ornaments.
James MacAvoy, Emily Blunt.
Rated G / 84 Minutes / Available 5/24

I AM NUMBER FOUR (Touchstone)
Take 1 part teen romance, 1 part alien sci-fi, a dash of action, and stir. Such is the recipe for a fast food, Friday night flick geared for a certain audience. There’s something there in this alphabet soup, and it spells s-e-q-u-e-l.
Alex Pettyfer plays John, a teenage alien from the planet Lorien, hunted by the evil Magorian race that destroyed his planet and now needs to kill the remaining Loriens in a specific order. You’re not supposed to care why, because you’ll be too busy watching John fall in love with human girl person, Sarah (Dianna Agron), and make friends with high school braniac, Sam (Callan McAuliffe).
Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron.
Rated PG-13 / 109 Minutes / Available 5/24
Same day as DVD
