THE TREE OF LIFE – Premieres October 11
It's never easy to describe a Terrence Malick film (BADLANDS, THE THIN RED LINE), but you know you've watched something unlike any other film you've seen before. THE TREE OF LIFE stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and up-and-comer Jessica Chastain (THE DEBT, THE HELP).
If you love, or even like, Malick's previous work, then you probably have this on your list. If you're in the mood for a thought provoking, mood inducing piece of work, then set aside the time to watch THE TREE OF LIFE a few times.
Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain
PG-13, Drama
Same day as DVD, Weeks before Netflix and Redbox

HORRIBLE BOSSES – Premieres October 11
Have you ever thought something terrible should happen to someone else, but wish someone would carry it out? Welcome to HORRIBLE BOSSES. Three friends played by actors better known for their TV shows Jason Bateman ("Arrested Development"), Jason Sudekis ("SNL") and Charlie Day ("It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia") commiserate over who they work for.
As only a Hollywood movie can do, this is all played as a comedy. Directed by by TV veteran Seth Gordon (director of notable docs FREAKONOMICS and THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS and less notabely for FOUR CHRISTMASES).
The trio can be funny at times, but are over-shadowed by their bosses (Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey and Colin Farrell) and their despicable actions. Give it a shot after a bad day at work.
Jason Bateman, Jason Sudekis, Charlie Day
R, Comedy

GREEN LANTERN – Premieres October 14
I like Ryan Reynolds. Does a great interview. I want to like his films. He tries comedy and drama. Small indies and now Hollywood super hero movies. For some reason they typically don't add up.
I was having a conversation about him and whose career path he should emulate. Good looking with a self -depricating demeanor. This generation's Hugh Grant (sans British accent, but crazy 6 pack).
Skip GREEN LANTERN until he figures it out.
Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively
PG-13, Action
Same day as DVD, Weeks before Netflix and Redbox, Available in 3D (contact your local cable provider)

FAST FIVE – Premiered October 4
Universal has made their 5th installment of their FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise. So clearly there are enough fans out there. Whereas I'm losing the ability to tell them apart, people can't seem to get enough of car chases.
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker
PG-13/NR, Action
Same day as DVD, Weeks before Netflix and Redbox

SCREAM 4 – Premiered October 4
SCREAM 4 is stuck in the middle of wanting to continue as a franchise (15 years after the original) and kickstarting a new one. Even the plot within the movie touches upon how confusing all the installments of the fictional STAB franchise are. Back are the survivors of the original cast (Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette) and a bevy of new babes to be slayed (Anna Paquin, Alison Brie, Emma Roberts, Aimee Teegarden, Hayden Panettierre and Kristen Bell).
I for one am tired of mask-wearing, knife-wielding vendetta-seekers. You could do worse around Halloween for a scare (although I don't know why it was released nearly 4 weeks before the holiday. Who knows, maybe it will have movie on demand legs.).
Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette
R, Horror
Same day as DVD
