Kate’s Top Movies On Demand For The Guys

Guys put down the Xbox Controller and step away from the Doritos. Sure it’s sacrilegious, but I swear you’ll thank me later. What are you missing in life? And don’t tell me a fat bank account, loose chicks, and endless booze? You will never have that unless you’re Tom Brady or in a beer commercial. So what’s the next best thing? Obviously it’s Movies On Demand.

Have a hot date and need something to do after you shell out the big bucks for Taco Bell? How about a nice movie on demand? Forced to hang out with judgmental family members? Aunt Sandy won’t ask about your nonexistent day job if you put on a movie on demand. Need some quality bro time that doesn’t involve Steve puking on the shag carpet? Movies on demand.

And I’m here to personally pick out the top films each month specifically for you. Now pick your Doritos back up and get ready for my top October picks. I promise if there’s not a film on this list for you, I’ll throw in some nachos and a set of Ginsu knives (ginsu knives not available - read by fast voice...).

Top On Demand Films For Guys:

DARK SHADOWS – Premieres October 2

With Halloween right around the corner why not indulge in this hilariously campy comedy from the warped mind of Tim Burton? It has vampires, witches, lava lamps and a whole lot of Johnny Deep being pale and strange. Based off of the intensely dramatic soap opera of the same name you can bet that this reboot will be drenched in satire. My suggestion: Make it into a drinking game. Drink every time Barnabas Collins comments about the absurdity of 70’s life. Take a shot whenever there’s a cleverly masked sexual pun. Chug when you see Alice Cooper. - KAW

PG-13, Comedy / Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix

THE RAVEN – Premieres October 9

It was the beating of his hideous heart! And yours as you watch this Edgar Allen Poe based thriller. John Cusack plays an edgier Poe thrust into the world of suspense when a serial killer starts using his poems as inspiration for murder. There’s intense mystery, gorgeous cinematography and creepy raven symbolism. Not to mention they leave out the fact that the real Poe was a fan of pedophilia and incest. We prefer Cusack’s drunk and neurotic interpretation. All he has is a broken heart and a lovely cloak. - KAW

R, Thriller / Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix

PROMETHEUS – Premieres October 9

In space no one can hear you scream: The prequel! Because watching the horrifying images of aliens exploding from people’s innards wasn’t disturbing enough the first time. Now you get to see it again! But this time starring Lisbeth Salander and Magneto. If you’re a science fiction fanatic you’ll definitely want to add this baby to your must see list. Even if you’re not wielding light sabers and going to conventions you still have to appreciate the true masterpiece of the Alien franchise, and the fact that Ridley Scott repeatedly laughs at your nightmares. - KAW

R, SciFi / Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix & Redbox

A Film For The Babes That The Guys Will Like:

ROCK OF AGES – Premieres October 9

Now guys listen to me. I’m sure the prospect of watching a musical starring Tom Cruise is not your idea of a swinging good time, but I’m here to tell you why that should change. First it’s the 80’s. Don’t even pretend like you haven’t belted out Don’t Stop Believing at 3am in your underwear. Second the gorgeous Julianne Hough is in it and she pole dances to “Any Way You Want It”. Third your babe will love it. She’ll think you picked this out for her when in reality you just wanted to live out your secret dream of being the lead guitarist in Poison. - KAW

PG-13, Musical / Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix

A Film For Him & Her:

MOONRISE KINGDOM – Premieres October 16

The most underrated on demand film in October is this Wes Anderson masterpiece. Its all-star cast includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand, but the real star here is the story. It’s a smart comedy that pairs the precise amount of wit and spirit, and perfectly personifies the hardship and hilarity of young love. If you’re looking for something that will appeal to both Guys and babes pick this. You won’t be disappointed. - KAW

PG-13, Drama / Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix & Redbox
