Respect the Old School: Older Artists Still Getting Airtime

The music industry of late is constantly introducing new artists onto the scene through a variety of mediums. The current popularity of teenage or pre-teen acts ala Justin Bieber and Willow Smith is not a new phenomenon but it will be interesting to see if these artists enjoy longevity in their careers for years to come. Few artists are able to stand the test of time, but when they do, their music can be shared by multiple generations – and with on demand offerings it is easier than ever to explore beloved artists of yesteryear.

If you’re in the mood for truly classic fare, check out “The Beatles – She Loves You Interviews,” an on demand Events special featuring exclusive footage from the super stars from Liverpool. Chronicling their earlier years, “Interviews” goes behind the scenes with Paul, John, Ringo and George to find out how the Fab Four personally dealt with their sudden global fame. This family friendly special will delight older fans and help younger generations appreciate the infectious talent of bands from the 60’s.

Music Choice On Demand knows that sometimes you just need to kick it old school to have a good time. Their original playlist “Throwback Jamz” currently features hits from artists like Janet Jackson, L.L. Cool J and even Bobby Brown. These artists may have moved on from making music but their hits can still be enjoyed anytime on demand. If you’re in the mood for something truly 90’s check out Idol Greets J.Lo! an original playlist chronicling the one and only Jennifer Lopez’s rise to fame with hits like “Get Right” and “”I’m Real” with JaRule. With all of the hype around J.Lo’s personal life today its easy to forget that girlfriend could really break it down back in the day!

Some artists take their time when planning their comeback. Ricky Martin’s last album, “Life,” came out in 2005. Now, in 2011, Ricky is ready to perform again. “Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tu” is the first single from his latest album “Musica + Alma + Sexo” – his first since coming out publicly. The album hits stores in early February but Music Choice On Demand has the video for “Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tu” this week. Check it out to see if Ricky can still make your hips sway!

The death of Michael Jackson left many unanswered questions for family, friends, and fans. One thing was certain, however, his undeniable talent would leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. The posthumous release of the album “Michael” generated controversial buzz over the use of synth vocals but many popular artists today are featured in duets with the late King of Pop, helping involve an entirely new generation of fans. The video for “Hold My Hand” featuring Akon debuted in the number 5 spot on Music Choice On Demand’s list of most demanded videos proving that great talent is always recognized, even if too late.

Music on demand options will always feature the latest and greatest in music entertainment but check out some of your favorite older hits this week. From classics like the Beatles to R&B crooners, these choices and many more are available from Music Choice On Demand, MTV On Demand, and Event Specials on demand.
