New Films on VOD for the Week of October 18
On Demand Weekly provides new movie previews of hot movies on demand from the POV of watching from the comfort of your home. Today’s preview: PREDATORS
At times, it seems as if the studios might just be mining the depths for moneymakers, searching for unexploited media to adapt for the purpose of appealing to the coveted consumer group of 15-24 year old boys. But what they do with the products makes all the difference; the elements that make up a quality film still need, for the most part, to apply. A film with great actors can still be a dud, and a movie with a convoluted plot but good effects, pacing, action and production design can be just enough. Case in point, here are this week’s On Demand feature film releases:
Demand it. In this incarnation of the “Predator” films, produced by Robert Rodriguez and starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, and Alice Braga, with Lawrence Fishburne, the predators have staged their own “Most Dangerous Game.” Waking up in a mysterious jungle, some of the world’s most lethal soldiers and criminals deduce that they are on an alien planet and have been placed in a game preserve where they are the hunted. It’s up to them to figure out what’s hunting them, work out how to survive, and keep from killing each other in the process. While it’s a familiar story, an excellent cast and a few surprises put this in the “Demand It” category, especially for fans of the earlier films.
