Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett are Robin Hood and Marian of Loxley in this Ridley Scott-directed big budget, big action film exploring the origins of the legendary character. In late 12th Century England, Robin Longstride assumes the identity of Robin of Loxley as a favor to the dying nobleman so his property will remain in his family’s care. As an impersonator, Robin becomes close with Marian of Loxley and her family’s affairs, involving him as an unwitting player in King John’s greedy taxation schemes and against the king’s traitorous head of the Royal Guard, Sir Godfrey, who helps plot a French invasion of England.
