Paula Deen – Brown Baggin
Food Network On Demand

After that solid week of watching, I mean, doing the exercises on that nifty VOD Sports and Fitness Channel, I've decided to take a bit of a break for the upcoming Hallmark holiday known as Valentine's Day. This isn't because me and the BF are sickening sweet. It's because we like food. And every holiday has a potential delicious element to it.

This year I've been toying with the idea of making a very special meal at home. Now, I know this isn't such an original idea but it is for us because one of us is a foodie (me) and the other one likes food (he). There is no room for Top Chef here. I can't even bust out an Anthony Bourdain. No. This has to be simple. The closest I can get to gourmet is Paula Deen. Or MAYBE Tyler Florence. A simple delicious meal with less than three syllables per ingredient.

Paula Deen is my default. But she's also going to kill me. On Food Network On Demand, Paula is making some of your heart attack favorites. I tried to fine the simplest recipe and that led me to the Sweet Tea-Brined Fried Chicken on a "Biscone". You just got the that oil taste in your throat, didn't you? Paula's guest was Cheryl Day, a chef from Savannah who was just as, uh, voluptuous as Paula. I don't know about you but I don't trust skinny chefs so you've got me hooked as soon as I see some chubby fingers in butter. After all, I used to watch Two Fat Chicks (oh lard, how they loved thee) for fun.

Paula is Paula. Honey coated Southern Lady accent at and all. Some words I need subtitles for but that's okay. I don't listen to what she says. I watch what she bakes y'all! But I'm not so sure about putting raw chicken in sweet tea. I toy with the idea of doing it without telling the BF, him loving and "Tada!" And I'm not sure I'm into making a cheese biscuit scone from scratch when Red Lobster already does a mighty fine example. Perhaps I can save this one for the family reunion where MANY other people can go down the fried chicken tubes with me. Heh.
