Lisa (Reese Witherspoon), a talented and much loved professional softball player, gets cut from her team because of her advancing age, but despite her woes, two men simultaneously enter her life. Matty (Owen Wilson) is a successful baseball player who really likes women but falls hard for Lisa, and George (Paul Rudd) is a sweet guy whose life is falling apart because his father (Jack Nicholson) set him up as the fall guy in a corporate finance scam.

Written and directed by James L. Brooks, this star powered film is in need of a new editor to pare down its heavy dialogue and pep up its erratic pacing. There are enjoyments to be had, however, with fine performances overall as well as a particularly delightful turn by character actress Kathryn Hahn, playing a pregnant assistant to Paul Rudd’s character, George. The film is intelligent, but bogged down.
Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd, Jack Nicholson. Rated PG-13 / 121 Minutes / Available 3/22

Drop-dead gorgeous Elise Clifton-Ward (Angelina Jolie) picks up an unsuspecting tourist named Frank Tupelo (Johnny Depp) on a train to Venice in order to delude gangsters into believing that the tourist is her lover, a man who stole two billion dollars from the gangsters’ boss. The plot thickens when Elise takes pity after setting up Frank and contacts the British Secret Service, of which she was a member until disappearing with her lover, telling them that she doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt.

The film is part comedy and part thriller, but also partly predictable. Meant to be a fun romp through Europe with cheeky lines as well as twists and turns, you can practically smell the money that was thrown at it, but it’s enjoyable enough if you can suspend disbelief and get into the spirit of the film.
Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie. Rated PG-13 / 103 Minutes / Available 3/22

The classic animated cartoon comes to life with the voices of Dan Aykroyd as Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo. Anna Faris and Tom Cavanagh co-star in this silly, lighthearted family film that’s most appropriate for kids under ten and provides good, harmless fun.

Yogi and Boo Boo’s usual “pic-a-nic” basket stealing antics are interrupted when Ranger Smith (Cavanagh) and his new nature documentarian friend, Rachel (Faris), try to save Jellystone Park from being turned into timber. In order to save the city from going bankrupt, Mayor Brown (Andrew Daly) wants to sell the park to loggers, which would force the bear friends to lose their homes and forage for food like real bears.
Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake. Rated PG / 80 Minutes / Available 3/22
