Top Songs of 2009
Coolest song & band name add up to a pretty decent tune as well. If Tarantino needs a follow up to Stuck in the Middle…
The last addition to the list. It’s raw, powerful sound just grabs you. Tell me you don’t move to this song. Video below.
Simply a song that grows on you from an underrated band.
I think The Raconteurs get more attention for being a so called super group of Jack White and playing at the big summer jams. When people ask where is this generation’s Who, have them listen to this song.
How Do You Like Me Now?
16. Candy Paolo Nutini
I'm not usually a Paolo Nutini fan. He sounds like Adam Sandler trying to sing seriously. I had no idea I was listening to him when I first heard this song.
One of rock’s more reliable bands these days that needs to be on a 2009 list. Soild, if not unspectacular tune.
Great build up to a song filled with tension. Expecting more from this band in years to come.
I’d say a disappointing result for the world’s greatest band with their last CD, NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, but Breathe could have been on JOSHUA TREE.
Good chorus chanting rock n roll tune. Raw and primal. And they're one of the bands on Kiefer Sutherland's music label. Are you going to mess with Jack Bauer?
Not sure they lived up to all the hype when they released their CD DEAR SCIENCE in 2008, but this song is super groovy.
I want to see these guys live. I’m a sucker for great drum openings.
No one burst onto the scene more in the last 2 years than MGMT. They had bigger songs in 2008, but they remained relevant in 2009. Spacey & cool.
The funnest song of the year. Greatly helped by the multi-era, dance themed Rum commercial it backed.
Was any rock band hotter in 2009 than Kings of Leon? One of their songs had to go in my 2009l music time capsule to re-open fondly in the future.
Eddie and the boys are back, if in a more mature way. Fans rejoice.
The band I want to break out and keep to myself at the same time. Love the percussion. Great for a rainy day in a pub as life marches by.
Illuminating sound. Don’t know why, but I picture an alien runway show to this.
I had given up on DMB, but no one does simple harmony better these days. Welcome back Dave. Video below.
The most unique sound of the year. Both lush & haunting.
I had never heard of this band until I caught them live on TV. I later discovered they were on the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack. Of course they were. The film hit one perfect after another. Great find.
You & Me
Some of these were released in 2008, but got more play in 2009.
Most of the songs are available on my iTunes mix.
