Uncovering Some Great New Hip-Hop and On Demand Concert Specials!

It’s no surprise that Urban videos perform consistently well on On Demand music video countdowns. While more established artists like Drake and Eminem have dominated for the past weeks, its now time for something new on the Hip-Hop scene. With the myriad of artists out there, it can be hard to distinguish one artist from another but On Demand music has a great selection across different channels this week.

Asher Roth
Asher Roth (Universal / Motown)

When Asher Roth first appeared in 2009, critics were surprised and delighted by this white rapper’s unconventional style and shameless proclamation of loving college for everything but the academics. If you loved “College” then check out his latest. It’s a lot better than what you might expect from a rapper who has laid pretty low since his first hit single but “G.R.I.N.D.” is a great reminder that not all rap need rely on extreme lyrics or degradation to be fun! Roth’s video debuts on Music Choice On Demand this week.

Making its first Music Choice On Demand video countdown appearance on Monday is Gucci Mane’s “It’s Gucci Time” featuring the always impressive mix master Swizz Beatz. Gucci is definitely back and his songs are not for the faint of Hip-Hop heart. On MTV On Demand, new artist Gilbere makes his first video appearance with “Black Chukkas.” Gilbere (b. Gilbere Forte) has previously collaborated with Asher Roth and at only 23 years old, this young rapper has already found a uniquely identifying sound with a slightly auto-tuned hook and slower spitting style. “Chukkas” is a great mash-up for the aficionado of electric beats.

Waka Flocka (or Waka Flocka Flame) is another young rapper who has had enormous success due to his popular music videos. The protégé of Gucci Mane- though the two allegedly engaged in a dispute a few years back- has proven himself a worthy new contender. He currently boasts two videos on the Music Choice On Demand countdown– “Hard In the Paint” has been on or near the top 10 for 11 weeks and his new video “No Hands” debuted at #1!

If you’re in the mood for a more substantial musical offering this week then check out these new concert specials On Demand. BET On Demand is offering a series of 30 minute shows from artists like Jeremih and Jay Sean. These mini-concerts are a great way to hear your favorite hits as well as explore some lesser known songs from their previous albums. You can enjoy the excitement of a concert right from your living room.

Not feeling the urban beat? The Foo Fighters present a live concert from the Wembley Stadium in historic London. Filmed in 2008 to a sold out crowd, the show features hits spanning the band’s 15+ year career. The Foo Fighters are a staple of the post-grunge/Alt-rock scene so maybe some new fans will emerge after this latest on demand offering. Find their concert this week on VH1 On Demand!
