WEEDS - Season Seven Premiere

Three years have passed. Nancy Botwin is out of prison. Her family have created new lives for themselves in Copenhagen: Shane is a puppeteer (“They’re marionettes!”) and a ladies’ man; Silas is a bored model; Andy is a tour guide and activist; and Doug is a druggie (not everything can change!).

So how will they all adjust? Nancy’s life is no longer in danger, but she is confined to a halfway house in New York City for the duration of her sentence. Her boys are grown up. Do they need their mom anymore? Andy is still in love, but will Nancy be ready to commit to him? Will Nancy straighten up and fly right?

It sure doesn’t look like that in the first episode. In less than 30 minutes (for us, it’s about one day for her!)...

...Nancy gets her freedom (sort of), finds out she’s a widow, breaks the heart of her prison mate, discovers she’s probably lost custody of her baby, strips in front of an FBI officer, takes a sauna in a public bath, and picks up a suitcase full of explosives. Talk about starting with a bang!

There is a part of me that wants Nancy to grow up and take some responsibility in her life and for the life of her family. There have been glimmers of it, especially in the final episode of the last season.

But if she did, she wouldn’t be Nancy Botwin, and the show wouldn’t be Weeds, and I probably wouldn’t be so fascinated by her!
