BURIED (Lionsgate)
Winner of Best Original Screenplay by the National Board of Review, this edge-of-your-seat thriller stars Ryan Reynolds as a man being held for ransom while buried alive in a coffin in Iraq. With only ninety minutes of oxygen to live, Paul Conroy is equipped with a cell phone and a lighter, which he uses with increasing desperation in order to extract himself from the worst situation imaginable. Reynolds runs every gamut of emotion, and it’s a pleasure to see him in a serious role. Despite the fact that the film takes place inside a coffin the entire time, the filmmakers have made a visually entrancing piece.
Ryan Reynolds. Rated R / 95 Minutes / Available 1/18

Same day as DVD.

TAKERS (Screen Gems)

If you are a heist film aficionado, then this serviceable heist incarnation is not for you. If you are up for eye candy in the form of young actors dressed to the nines enjoying life’s finer luxuries and then planning and implementing the robbery of an armored car using guns and explosives, trailed by a persistent detective (Matt Dillon), then this well-paced film will suit your popcorn needs.
Matt Dillon, Paul Walker. Rated PG-13 / 107 Minutes / Available 1/18

Same day as DVD.
