Top Chef All Stars - On DemandDecember 23, 2010
Bravo
Every Thursday, media savant T Tara Turk goes deep inside cable TV to reveal Video On Demand's Hidden Gems so even the busiest of our readers can get the most out of On Demand TV. Tell Tara what VOD shows you think deserves her attention...
By T. Tara Turk
I need an intervention. My "Top Chef" addiction is way out of control (somebody call A&E's "Intervention"!). And you know this because I even wrote you about "Top Chef Just Desserts." We've already basically forgotten that show in the wake of the "Top Chef All Stars" coming on to the set like a blender full of stuff out of control.
Just when I thought there couldn't be any more wonderful Top Chef spinoffs (I mean they even got actual big time chefs like Rick Bayliss and Govind Armstrong to hash it out in front of judges - and they OWN restaurants already!), somebody comes up with the genius idea to get a few of the best of the past contestants (the ones who almost won and who showed mucho presence during taping) and have them hash it out with each other.
This episode is just after Jennifer Carroll (Season 6) got the boot after arguing with the judges that her breakfast dish made for tons of hopped up New York children who spent the night in the Natural History Museum was basically not delicious. Jen, who was kind of quiet and spoke with her food skills in Season 6, ventured towards taking off her earrings, slapping on some Vaseline and going to blows with with the judges (Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, Padma Lakshmi and that foodie rebel Anthony Bourdain) over her dish. This kind of meltdown usually happens in the kitchen and not a judges table and came ask a shock to all in the room. It also set a bit of an edgy tone with those contestants who remained, armed with their utensils.

NICKI MINAJ IS QUEEN OF MUSIC CHOICE ON DEMANDJune 27, 2011
Music Choice
Move over Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" sets new record for the most music video views in one week on Music Choice (launched in November 2004). That's right, she's broken her own record from November 2010. "Super Bass" has totaled 1,436,807 views, 150,000+ more views than for her song "Right Thru Me" (1,278,807 views).
Minaj now holds holds three of the top five spots for best one week performance videos of all time on Music Choice On Demand.
1. Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass - 1,436,807 views for week ending 05/29/11
2. Nicki Minaj’s Right Thru Me - 1,278,807 views for week ending 11/10/10
3. Justin Bieber’s Baby - 1,222,670 views for week ending 4/4/10
4. Lil Wayne’s Lollipop -1,180,360 views for week ending 4/13/08
5. Nicki Minaj’s Your Love -1,062,915 views for week ending 8/15/2010
“Nicki makes greats songs and visually appealing videos that really speak to our viewers who love music. Our On-Demand platform gives fans the power to experience their favorite artists like Nicki Minaj on TV whenever they want to---that’s very cool for a music fan.” Music Choice VP of Programming Damon Williams emailed ODW.
Minaj tweeted about the milestone and her website had the following:
"Her music is passionate and lyrically she connects to certain relationships," Williams told in an interview with My Pink Friday.
"Nicki has a pop hip hop sound and a lot of people enjoy that." Williams also said Minaj, who released her studio debut album Pink Friday last November, has blown up via her mixed tapes, live performances and interviews.
"It also doesn't hurt that she was signed by Little Wayne and worked with Drake. Those brand associations certainly help," he said. "But it's about her sound and her passionate supporters."
To that end, Williams said the "Super Bass" video has attracted a healthy number of unique users, about 500,000, but that the repeat viewership "speaks to people wanting to spend time with her. The usage and volume are massive. People are truly excited by Nicki."
Year to date, Music Choice, Williams said, has exceeded expectations. "We typically get about 100 million orders per month and we're seeing [more than] that." Williams is looking ahead to next month: Last July, Music Choice set a record with some 119 million orders, and he believes that with students out of school that total is in reach.
